What happens when you take a classic and add the vibes of a band that had never been shy of fangirling about it ? An actual tribute to Talking Heads – and I couldn’t have imagined a better energy than the one Paramore always brings to nail this thing.
Never thought that song could get any groovier and then oh well, they showed up. If those beats don’t make you move like you’re wearing an oversized suit (bonus point for that Ms Williams – yeah I’m nasty), you’re probably somewhat dead inside – but even if. It’s enticing enough to conjure up some voodoo juju shit and wake up the dead.
Hayley’s raspy voice was always meant to fight fire with fire, and the growling seeping from her seemed to have been waiting to burn down the house for a damn long time now.
Makes it even more satisfying that it’s Paramore’s first release after finally ending their 20 year contract with Atlantic. Should we be worried that the first move they make as free agents is to burn down the place? Nah. Stars align or some shit, and in this case it was probably more a box of matches. If you’ll pardon me the imagery – Fire brings chaos and destruction, but it’s also cleansing and eventually a sign of rebirth right? That’s a nice thought about where this band is at in their journey.
If what the future holds for Paramore is filled with those smooth beats and that cracking energy, they’ll soon be burning down all our hearts (again) and you know what ? We’ll ask for more.
Go on cool babies.
Turn that spark into a roaring fire – you know what it takes, and you know how to make it happen.
In the meantime, I’ll hold tight and have this one on repeat til the damn algorithm breaks down.
