More music, more coffee, less bullshit.

Being a rock’n’roll fan has no gender. And that’s one of the beauties of it.

Writing about it seemingly has one, though.

I know I say fuck a lot. I know I’m not your idea of a girlie girl. But I’m getting tired of people calling me bro or dude.

Yes, I’m a woman. A bit rough around the edges, certainly a loud mouth, a passionate mofo who drinks too much coffee — but definitely not a dude.

You can call me Jo.

Good chance you’ll never know much more about me than that — apart from what you’ll read between the lines of those posts, and what I’m willing to let on.

So let’s talk about the only thing that actually matters here.

I remember picking up a Lagwagon album as a young teen called Let’s Talk About Feelings. I’m not too sure what kind of feelings were in there, coming through the headache caused by that joyful feedback. But only in my old age — sigh — have I understood those damn punk rockers were right.

It’s always about feelings.

I fall for boys, I fall for girls, I fall for whole bands. I fall for the growl of a low key bass note, I fall for the high pitch of a shredding guitar, I fall for a perfectly timed snare drum, I fall for voices. Oh boy do I fall for voices — they turn me into a hopeless romantic. I fall for a sound that rides on the surface of things, I fall for a lyric that makes me feel seen, I fall for these feelings you can relate to. I fall for a song, an album, an artist, a decades long discography.

I fall for music, time and time again, and I keep looking for the one that will make my heart beat. The one that will bring me that fleeting joy. The one that inspires me. The one that makes me feel alive. The one I want to share with others.

Music is a language, and my love language is to nag you endlessly about it — writing posts that sometimes, most times, always will merely be love letters to all these artists who drown out the world on a daily basis in the most beautiful way.

Which, in practice, looks like this.

Championing women in rock as much as I can. Finding those smaller bands that give me hope about the future of music. Stanning the older acts that built our foundations. And even better, all the beauty in between.

Writing with honesty, zero bullshit and always — even through the shit jokes — a lot of love for my bands.

Yes, bands. Plural. I am a woman of many faves. A music fan, not a worshipper.

A suitcase, a notebook, and way too much caffeine in my system — from your local sweaty venues to massive stadiums, wherever the music takes me. I write the kind of reviews I’d want to read: honest, passionate, and never boring.

I’ll always try to bring a smile on your face and some extra joy through my lines. Apologies in advance though — I seemingly have a talent for making people cry sometimes.

There you go.
Nice to meet you.
Thanks for being here.
