Fontaines D.C. are playing Slane Castle twice. Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June 2027 — the second night added within days of the first, after demand for it went absolutely bonkers.

I jumped on Fontaines bandwagon early on with Dogrel back during the Covid days in 2019 - some learnt how to make one thousand sourdough bread variants, I just obsessed about listening to every last band on streaming platforms. Or I just have excellent taste. Obviously this announcement hit like telling me my firstborn was starting college or something. They were LITERAL babies back then, and I've seen them several times since in small to small-ish rooms. I'm not gonna lie, watching my "little" post-punk band sell out somewhere that iconic is a proud mama moment and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

That first date at Slane is on June 26th, which is also in less interesting facts, the day I was born. Fontaines, Hayley Williams, Slane, my birthday , felt like they did it just for me but as I had tickets in my TM basket, I let the horror stories about getting off that hill get to me. I once walked back from Marlay Park back into Dublin city centre on my own two legs after a full day of queuing and rocking hard with Greenday's Hella Mega Tour and said never again with my whole chest. So I hesitated and let my intrusive thoughts win. A great many other people did not. Twice. Ask me again in March when the FOMO starts hitting hard.
Slane caps a run that starts much sooner though. Fifth album Dopamine Chamber lands on 16 October, and the arena tour follows immediately: Lisbon (LISBON! AGAIN! I love you lads) Madrid, Barcelona and eleven more before six UK dates closing at the O2 on 27 November. Chalk open every one of them.
My home date is obviously secured, and it is the consolation prize I have awarded myself.

Grian Chatten has a magnetism on stage that got me immediately — he's just a man, and you cannot look anywhere else, and that doesn't even have anything to do with his good looks. Slane tickets went on sale on 3 September, from €89, a euro of which goes to Focus Ireland. Arena tickets are out there too, and Lisbon is five weeks away.
