Well guys, this is it.
Summer festivals are starting to drop their line ups for 2025 – and that’s the only thing keeping our sanity from a rapid decline – which means only one thing: concert season is officially over. At least mine. Time for my bank account to hibernate and recover poor thing.
I’m a lucky bitch and still riding the high from last week gig but I can feel that even that happy cloud is slowly fading away. The looming numbness waiting for me at the bottom of that descent isn’t exactly appealing, and with the confirmation we had this week of living in a sick sad world once again, I’m afraid that fall is gonna hurt more than planned.
Whine, whine, whine—harder, Jo. Of course I do. It’s Monday after all and everything sucks.
We’re up for some pretty dim months ahead of us in terms of live music but eh, let’s not dive headfirst into the seasonal depression hype. Been there, done that—the service is terrible and the people even worse. Zero stars, do not recommend.
So in the meantime I thought I’d keep myself happy, and let Youtube come to the rescue.
You know I don’t give up so easily and that’s why I’ve spent the day hunting down all the performances that brought me joy this year. A temporary musical band aid til the rock n roll gods bless us with more shaky videos from the pit that is our happy place and since I’m a very giving and kind person – unless you deserve to fuck off – I’ll share the joy with you.
Starting this week with no other than the good guys from Stand Atlantic. For those who don’t know them yet – I’m starting to take it personally I swear – they’re a talented band from Sydney I’ve found out about through my Pvris obsession and their last album WAS HERE is a freaking delight to the ears.
I’m still to write a full piece about them because damn they sure deserve more than a few words. I did mention Bonnie, their lead singer in another one of those Monday Special but that’s nowhere near enough compared to the joy they bring me.
They’re hot, full of spite and so much fun. I love these guys. How could I not. They’re what pop punk is all about.
Their sound is fresh, their talent is undisputed, and they will definitely make you bop in that work chair of yours – or take a few laps around the block – and on occasion take you off guard and steal a few tears. They’re definitely a band you don’t want to miss. Especially if your bones aren’t cracking at the end of the day. I sure wish they could have been around during my crowd surfing days, you would never have seen me back on my feet.
For old and young and everyone in between, that’s fine, they’ll LOVE U ANYWAY and that’s the statement I picked to beat this monday blues. Sorry about the break up Bonnie, but if that’s any comfort it gave us one hell of a tune to take our own sorrow away. What a joy hit this perf is. And they have a freaking saxophone on this one. God I swear, a sax makes everything a thousand times better, at all times.
Ha. I could go on a lot longer, they do deserve more words, but it’s Monday after all and before I revert to my grumpy self I’ll stop here and leave you in much better company.
Enjoy.
